Isobel, who is the Big Chief of this event and puts in the extra Marathon, let alone miles, assures me that the turn out this year was no greater that in the past. Others reckoned that the hall was as full as it has ever been by half past opening time. The ladies in the kitchen (Morag, Sandra, Claire, Juliet, Betty, Beryl, Evelyn and, of course Isobel) scraped themselves off the floor at around 3.15 looking shell-shocked and mighty relieved.

I had passed the Hall with a quarter of an hour to go and already two of the parking areas were almost full. By an hour later parking anyhere near the Hall was at a premium. So, you can take Isobel's assessment if you wish, but................

Once you had inserted a foot into the 'box office' you were met by the hard-sell. This time the assault was not only led by Ex-Chair Dave, but also by his long-time henchperson Alistair and, a newcomer to the team, but notably efficient, Maeve Nicol who made sure that you felt in your pocket for a raffle ticket before approaching the inner sanctum.

A full list of stalls is below and it was good to note a few newcomers. Claire Duncan was offering some lively work and her hand-painted slates were much admired. Claire Thompson's Gourmet nosh for doggies, moggies and gee-gees made their first appearance as did Jennifer Inglis with some intriguing Kaleidoscopic lamps. Angela Bowman, with some jewellery, magnets and other items, was a welcome addition to the list of stall holders.

Not to forget our regulars, amongst whom it should be remembered that all the proceeds from Irene Mulholland's stall are divided between Children in Need and Harburn Hall. The contribution of Howard Spenser needs a mention. As well as displaying various woodcarvings, he was of immense help to the over-stretched ladies in the Kitchen and was to be found aiding in the gargantuan clearing up process. Also contributing in this task were the Nicol sisters:Isabel and Maeve, who, it is reported, 'just got on with it'!

All-in-all, and whatever the head honcho says, a thoroughly enjoyable (and exhausting for many) 2018 Craft Fair.
